Program Outcome 6
Advance the culture of excellence through lifelong learning and the design of innovative nursing practices.
(Professionalism)
Program outcome six focuses on professionalism. One of my first papers in the program helped me critique research articles. As an educator, I must have a solid understanding when reading an article if it is credible in a professional setting. The research article critique paper focused on critiquing three separate articles.
The Model of Care assignment provided a model for chronic disease. The objective of the assignment explained what needs to be changed in the Chronic Care Model. A description of who is at a disadvantage and who benefits from the Chronic Care Model was provided. The Model of Care educated innovative nursing practice which completes program outcome six.
The Health Education on Emergency Preparedness project provided a framework for education to hospital staff in regard to patients who are exposed to Chemical, Biological, Radiation, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) material. An educational strategy was provided to promote learning in the health care setting. Providing simulations with terror attacks using CBRNE provided the best educational technique to health care workers. In hindsight, preparing and accurately assessing patients will provide safe quality care to not only the patient but also to health care workers.
The National League for Nursing (NLN) competencies completed during program outcome four include:
Competency I: Facilitate Learning
Nurse educators are responsible for creating an environment in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings that facilitates student learning and the achievement of desired cognitive, affective, and psychomotor outcomes.
Competency II: Facilitate Learner Development and Socialization
Nurse Educators recognize their responsibility for helping students develop as nurses and integrate the values and behaviors expected of those who fulfill that role.
Competency VI: Pursue Continuous Quality Improvements in the Nurse Educator Role
Nurse Educators recognize that their role is multidimensional and that an ongoing commitment to develop and maintain competence in the role is essential.
Competency VIII: Function Within the Educational Environment
Nurse educators are knowledgeable about the educational environment within which they practice and recognize how political, institutional, social, and economic forces impact their role.
